“Live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” – Ephesians 4:1 This passage is something I hold close to my heart. I truly believe that the Lord has called me to “seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow” (Isaiah 1:17). It all began when I embarked on a life changing adventure to Kenya in eleventh grade. Since then I have tried to ‘seek justice’ for the oppressed in anyway. I went to Peru to work with street children and I spent six months in Ecuador to spend time with those in poverty and to understand their culture. At Virginia Tech I am involved with an organization called, Pilot Street. They help refugees from Sudan and Kenya become accustom to life in our area, which houses many refugees from around the world. A few friends and I spend two to three nights a week working with the Sudanese children, helping them with their homework and showing them some much needed love. Working with these children has been growing process for me, but at the same time you can see how much they enjoy us coming every week. Most of these families have nearly nothing and have more than six children to care for. I pray that these children can stay strong in their education and can combat the system of poverty that they are stuck in. I have never been on a ‘real’ missions trip, however since I accepted Christ into my life He has shown me in many ways that ministry work abroad is something he wants me to do. I had been praying for guidance in what I am supposed to do this summer because I had previously planned to be at an internship this summer, but it was cancelled. After it was cancelled I was had no clue what to do this summer, but I knew God had knew plans for me. I attend a retreat whose theme was passion and love. The pastor said that, we all must use the passion in which the Lord has given us to preach the gospel. At this moment, I knew that Christ was telling me to use my passion for traveling to do missions work abroad. Jesus Christ is the Savior in my heart and my heart is filled with the will to preach God’s message and to help those that are in need.
